Our next stop is at the famous Virginia Monument. The first Southern Monument to be erected at Gettysburg. The top has General Lee on Traveler. This was the area that the Confederates lined up along. Across from here is Cemetery Ridge and the Union positions. This is where Gen. Lee watched Pickett's Charge. When you look at how far they had to go to engage in battle its hard to figure why they went. I had a hard time walking it (that's without being shot at).
