Maddie was at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. She wanted to see the famous engine house that John Brown was captured at. It is also referred to as John Brown's Fort.

John Brown was the Abolitionist who is considered to be one of the sparks of the Civil War.

The whole town of Harpers Ferry is a National Park.

John Brown started a slave rebellion in Harpers Ferry. The Federal Government sent the Marines to get him out of the engine house. The man who captured John Brown was Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Lee. The great R.E. Lee was at the time an United States soldier.
