39 year old Brigadier General Thomas Cobb was assigned to defend Marye's Hill. He was a very determined warrior from Georgia. Although his mother was raised here at Fredericksburg. He felt he was defending his mothers home.

During the battle he was mortally wounded in the leg and died about two hours after his injury.
